Adventure Recovery Coach Training

The Adventure Recovery Coach training provide individuals with the foundational tools and skills to integrate the “nature as healer” philosophy into the recovery coaching process. Upon completion of the AR Coach training, you will possess the necessary knowledge and skills to safely and effectively lead others on basic outdoor adventures. These include hiking, orienteering, and ceremonial activities, to name a few. AR Coaches receive ongoing supervision and education through the Adventure Recovery leadership team.

During this training, we focus on the foundational skills of navigation, risk management, interpersonal relationships, and the essential values of nature-based healing. This curriculum imparts trainees with a greater sense of self, assuredness in nature, and access to the base skills needed to support others on their journey. This training also acts as an assessment, both personal and professional, related to one’s continuum along the Adventure Recovery Coach, and if pursued, Adventure Recovery Guide track.

Evaluation

Upon completion of the Adventure Recovery Coach Training and following team review, follow-up, and assessment, individuals will be given clear directions for development and growth. Ongoing mentorship and support from senior AR Guides is part of the process. We hold relationships with our trainees every step of the way, to ensure they are clear on their needs and areas to focus on going forward, depending on the desired path.

Trainees who successfully complete the Adventure Recovery Coach training will be eligible to work with individual coaching clients through Adventure Recovery, or as independent Coaches, or within other recovery organizations. This is considered the minimum requirement for working in the field with individuals and assisting with groups.

Trainees may continue in the AR Guide Training curriculum and earn free-standing credentials as AR Rock, River, Ocean and Mountain Guides. Wilderness Advanced First Aid is the minimum backcountry medicine requirement to become an AR Guide.

Completion of each module, practice hours, and skills assessments, qualifies trainees to earn the Adventure Recovery Guide Certificate. This certificate then makes one eligible for per-diem, technical skills fieldwork with individual AR Clients and Groups. Completion of individual modules and final certificate does not guarantee employment.
