Adventure Recovery is thrilled to bring an offering to our amazing community of compassionate, thoughtful mental health and recovery advocates. It’s been a challenging year with lockdowns, quarantine, protests, and the intensity of our overall shared experience. And what we know, now more than ever, is that we all need ongoing, consistent time in nature for our health and well-being. Activities outdoors are increasingly vital for our health. We also know, from the studies shared these last few months, that COVID-19 is not passed when practicing safe awareness and distancing outdoors.
The beauty of time in the great outdoors is what we all seek and it’s even better when we’re with people we love. On this note, Adventure Recovery Coach Certificate training is here! This offering allows peers and professionals who love time outside to learn and apply the AR approach to working with others. Our new Adventure Recovery Coach Certificate training imparts core skills and concepts from our AR Guide training with a strong awareness on the recovery coaching model overall. Since our background includes recovery coaching and recovery coach training expertise, this is familiar terrain and a true complement to the Adventure Recovery model.
Recovery Coaching Through Adventure
Through personal adventures, we build esteem and come home to our sense of self, time and again. It’s the trusted tried and true skillfulness outdoors that touches the core of who we are as humans. Athleticism combined with exploration, adventure, and competency fills the soul on every level. Studies show that exercise outdoors is a vital part of our daily mental health. In addition, research shows that proximity to the wild — green spaces, bodies of water, natural environments — boost not only our mental health and mood, but directly impact our immunity, physiological well-being, and affect other biomarkers indicating physical health. When we add the personal human connection found through coaching to the adventure experience, we deepen our sense of belonging, interconnectedness, and well-being. For us, this is where the magic happens.
“Adventure Recovery Coaching allows anyone with a love for nature to learn the AR approach to working with others. The profound experience of camaraderie in the great outdoors is truly life changing."— Josh Flaherty, AR Guide & Executive Director of Adventure Recovery
How Does Adventure Recovery Coaching Work?
The Adventure Recovery Coach training provide individuals with the foundational tools and skills to integrate the “nature as healer” philosophy into the recovery coaching process. Upon completion of the AR Coach training, you possess the necessary knowledge and skills to safely and effectively lead others on basic outdoor adventures. This includes hiking, orienteering, and ceremonial activities to name a few. AR Coaches are provided with ongoing supervision and education through the Adventure Recovery leadership. If an AR Coach decides they want to pursue higher degree skill sets or greater immersion into the outdoor lifestyle, they are able to enroll in additional training modules to work toward becoming an Adventure Recovery Guide.
AR Coaching - A Path to Connection
What we know without a doubt is this: sobriety and mental health recovery don’t happen in a vacuum. By sharing our struggles with openness and vulnerability, we find real healing. And this willingness to share our experiences requires trust and confidence in others. Consequently, this relationship is built through sincere connection and we’ve learned that this can be found in authentic experiences in the great outdoors.
AR guides you along the journey, supporting every step of the way. Hence, immersing in these disciplines, you experience wonder, excitement, contentment, and happiness. This is the foundation for extraordinary living and sustainable wellness. LEARN MORE
