Our community has expanded beyond our imaginings over the past few years as we serve kids in middle and high school, adolescents in need of mentorship, young adults seeking community, parents and families in need of support, folks in recovery, and fellow nature lovers who just want to get out. We are really excited about the adventures to come and thrilled to continue to expand our recovery community and creative collaborations.
Adventure Recovery: Nature Therapy
Our work continues to provide, not only profound moments of connection, but deeply cathartic experiences that inspire our clients, our team, and our mission to go further. This past year allowed us to expand the AR offering, working with more individuals and groups on overnights and multi-day trips. Time in the field is something we savor deeply because it’s where we see the real magic happen. As we shake off the day-to-day stresses, take some deep breaths, and come to the present moment, we generate space for healing and growth. It’s an honor to witness the transformation.
“Every time we face a challenge in the outdoors, we use our mental and physical abilities to overcome it. We learn somatically, integrating the teaching on a deep level. Hence, we generate self-reliance and resilience. In addition, we shift from a sense of helplessness to empowerment. Adventure provides significant opportunities for us to find solutions, both individually and as a group. Therefore, this process builds self-esteem and community. It changes lives. It is very profound to be part of this experience,” says Tim Walsh, founder of Adventure Recovery and seasoned outdoor guide with over 30+ years in the field.
Adventure Recovery Coaching
Our one-on-one AR mentorship model continues to serve those seeking deeper support and meaningful outdoor experiences and leadership guidance. Coaching and mentorship provide a distinctive peer support relationship that goes beyond basic recovery coaching support. AR Guides and Coaches offer camaraderie, accountability, outdoor skills instruction, and reverence for the life lived outside. It’s a way of life for us. AR
AR leadership guidance continues to expand as we work with varied populations, including prevention coalitions, schools, community groups, clinical services, and families in need of adventure intervention. What we’re discovering now, is that the science is substantiating the verity of nature-based intervention. Time outside is proven to be beneficial, not just for physical health through exercise, but also for one’s mental well-being. This is profound.
Tuning In, Turning On, and Getting Out
The Adventure Recovery approach is to create tailored nature-based adventure experiences that provide space for personal healing, growth, and community. As we expand the AR offerings, we are thrilled to embark on trips within the US, and beyond. We craft sober adventures, uniquely customized to suit those participating. Also, we can suit the needs of those who simply want to get out and learn how to surf, kayak, rock climb, snowboard, ski, or just spend some time with other outdoor enthusiasts.
The Kids Need Us
AR is expanding Adventure Discovery workshops and programs geared toward our distinctive prevention model. We create a safe space for adolescents and young adults to communicate directly about the challenges they face. This is deeply inspiring work and something our founder, Tim Walsh, has been doing for decades. In addition, along with prevention education, we are teaching kids the skills they need to flourish as athletes, as individuals, and eventually as peer mentors for one another.
Parents Need Us, Too
It’s not easy to be a parent. And it’s even harder to parent teens. Today, we face so much—all of us—but especially as parents. It’s not just about substances and alcohol. Tech addiction is real and impacting everyone. Kids, especially, are challenged by cyberbullying, social media, and tech saturation. Parents need the support to navigate our complex times and we’ve collaborated with some of the best in the mental health field to complement our offering to those we serve. Furthermore, we collaborate with professional clinicians who specialize in substance use, eating disorders, trauma, and family therapy, to ensure that we support our community.
Adventure Recovery is committed to serving more populations in need. If you, or someone you know, want to learn more, please call us. We’re here to support, mentor, teach outdoor leadership, stoke the fire, and provide your next epic adventure.
